On November 11, 2011, at 6 PM, Northeast Oregon Compassion Center in conjunction with Baker City Nazarene Church is hosting an evening to honor our veterans. The event was created to honor and applaud the generations of military veterans who have bravely served our nation and sacrificed so much.
The featured speaker will be Dr. Roger Haefer, chaplain at Powder River Correctional Facility, who has written a book titled “Battleship Letters: The Biography of Carson Haefer U.S.S. New Mexico Marine Detachment WWII: A Man Tempered by Fire”
Far too often society and history overlook the tremendous ordeal of the World War II veteran. Their lives have been idealized through Hollywood and the media giving the general public a distorted view of their experiences. Yet reality was much different.
In addition to Dr. Haefer, Ian Howarth, National Guard Chaplain and Pastor of the Open Bible Church, Brad Phillips, Pastor of Harvest church and Jonathan Privett, Pastor of the Nazarene Church will share. Also, the Honor Guard from the Baker City Army National Guard will present the colors. The evening will conclude with a finger food buffet.
“It is our desire to honor all those who have sacrificed so much keeping our nation safe. I hope every person who has served in any branch of the military will attend”, stated Cliff Cole, Ministry Director at Northeast Oregon Compassion Center.
